Trip Details:

An expedition into the heart of the Okavango Delta.  We will be starting in the north – the panhandle of the Delta – from where we will make a seven day journey to its southernmost point.  We will use medium size motor boats to glide across the waters, carrying with us all supplies for the journey.  We will stop along the way for exciting wildlife moments, to spot an astounding variety of birds, or simply to cast out for a tiger fish.

By night, we will set up a simple tented camp on a remote island or beach. We will have bedrolls, bucket showers and an open dining tent.  Life could not be simpler.  The food is delicious and fresh and if you are skilled or lucky, fish too can be on the menu.

We round out the trip with three nights in the luxury of a permanent camp in a private conservancy within Khwai (Moremi) area, where we look for African Hunting dogs, lion, leopard and nearly every species of plains game. Botswana boasts a staggering population of more than 130,000 elephant. We will live around this magnificent animal as humans have done for thousands of years. It is a photographers paradise (as is the entire trip!). This trip is the future of Tropical Ice in Botswana, we can’t wait to explore it with you.

why we love it:

While much of the world is losing wild places, the Okavango Delta remains as it has for thousands of years. What makes Botswana so different to almost anywhere else in Africa is how relaxed the wildlife is with us around. Unlike in places where poaching has made animals skittish, we find here that even the predators allow us to watch as they calmly go about their daily routine.

A major reason for embarking on this safari is that it is an opportunity to experience Botswana in a more active and adventurous manner than the game driving/boutique lodge safari that has become the norm.   It is a unique opportunity to explore the entire length of the Okavango Delta.  The wildlife is spectacular all trip. We expect to have intimate elephant experiences and see many of the big cats and African hunting dogs up close.
