Trip Details:

Launching our newest itinerary: Journey to the Jade Sea

Starting with three nights in the Maasai Mara – one of the world's seven wildlife wonders. Our private camp is located in a magnificent wildlife region near the border with Tanzania.

We utilise our time in the best way, game driving throughout the mornings and afternoons. The vast rolling plains of the Maasai Mara are home to some of the largest herds of game left on our planet: wildebeest, gazelles, eland, giraffe, and elephant. Owing to the huge concentrations of wildlife these plains are also roamed by lions, cheetahs, and leopard.

We then take a flight to Meru National park, which was made famous by Elsa the lioness of the bestselling book Born Free. The country is totally different to the Maasai Mara; this is a drier region, inhabited by rhino and elephant, as well as desert game such as gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Grevy's zebra and Reticulated giraffe. The park is crossed by a myriad of beautiful streams, which flow from the nearby Nyambeni hills, offering fabulous bird life, and refuge for many of the animals.

After two nights in Meru National park, the adventure truly begins. We board our charter plane to the far north of Kenya. From here, we will have unparalleled access to Kenya's most remote wilderness. During these days we will drive to nearby Lake Turkana (Jade Sea), where we can fish and visit local Turkana villages.

why we love it:

Lake Turkana has earned the name Jade Sea due to its incredible ever-changing hues of blues and greens. It spans a vast length of  180 miles, and is primarily fed by the Omo River, which flows in from Ethiopia. It is the world's largest permanent desert lake. By volume, it is the world's fourth largest salt lake. This region is regarded by anthropologists as the Cradle of Humankind due to the abundance of hominid fossils discovered in the area. The landscape is staggeringly beautiful, we will explore its sandy river beds on foot, by car, or (highly recommended) by Quad bike. You don't have to be experienced bikers to enjoy the freedom and exhilaration that this mode of transport gives.

Please note that whilst in Northern Kenya, you can schedule a helicopter flight across the area, this can be arranged as an extra: A dawn or dusk helicopter adventure into the wild and remote Turkana region is beyond spectacular! You will cross part of the Suguta Valley where years of erosion and extreme temperatures have created this exceptionally diverse and spectacular landscape. We fly over lava flows, saline marshes, pockets of palms, and within minutes arrive on white desert sand dunes that roll on for miles and miles. We will also look down on Teleki's Volcano. The northern-most feature of the Suguta Valley is Lake Logipi - a shallow soda lake of no more than two feet in depth, which is the feeding hub for thousands of flamingo and other migratory water birds.
